July 13th I did a short trip to the
Ångström lab in Uppsala to visit Associate Prof.
Ocean Cheung and his lab. Ocean is leading research on metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and related materials like COFs or HOFs. I was interested in visiting his gas sorption lab in which he studies those very microporous materials and to exchange experience with the methods in general. It was a short but very interesting visit and I hope I can return the favor at Chalmers soon.
Ocean is also very active in science communication and I would like to bring his podcast "
The MOFcast" to your attention. He also addresses general topics in his podcast like scientific mobility or the question that many phd students are confronted with at some point: "Industry or Acedemia".
He is also active together with IUPAC to standardize reporting of experimental and synthesis parameters following the
STAR file format principle. I plan to pick this topic up at a later point as I regard it as very important worth a dedicated post. Check out the
AIF and
MIF projects.
