Visit of Nobel Laureate Prof. Yaghi

Exciting end of an exciting year

December 22, 2025

This year has been a busy year with a lot of planning and construction around the new Surface Area & Porosity Lab and successful events like the two phd theses defenses. I am very glad that all of this worked very well in the end.
A highlight in December was the visit of Prof. Omar M. Yaghi, one of this years Nobel laureates in Chemistry for the development of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs). Prof. Yaghi visited the department to meet and discuss science with students working in the field and to meet Prof. Öhrström of the Chemistry department, with who has a long lasting collaboration. (Read more about the visit on the Chalmers webpage) During that visit I had the privilege to show to Prof. Yaghi the new laboratory. MOFs are materials with very high specific surface area and very defined porosity. Hence, gas sorption analysis, like the new laboratory provides, is a key technique to characterize those materials for various applications like air purification, gas separation, hydrogen storage, drug delivery, water capture and purification, and so on. Prof. Yaghi mentioned a few more techniques that are interesting for the lab. We have space for one more instrument. Let's see what the future brings.

God Jul & Gott Nytt År
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
